MAIN UPDATE
OpenAI agents are coming in January ⚡🤖
OpenAI is gearing up for two major releases: a successor to GPT-4 expected in December, followed by a new artificial intelligence agent codenamed, "Operator," set for release in January.
Here's what you need to know:
Operator that can use a computer to take actions on a person’s behalf, such as writing code or booking travel, according to two people familiar with the matter.
The tool will initially be available as a research preview through OpenAI’s developer API, similar to their experimental search engine launch earlier this year.
This release follows Sam Altman’s comments about more sophisticated AI models coming soon, and OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer expects agent tools like Operator to go mainstream by 2025.
Why it matters:
This move heats up competition among tech giants building AI agents: Anthropic launched its "computer use" feature, and Google plans to release its version in December. Operator’s release date isn’t confirmed, but it marks a big step toward AI that can interact directly with computers, not just process text and images.

SIDE UPDATE
OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic face challenges in Advancing AI 🚧
Despite recent breakthroughs, major AI players like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic are encountering unexpected hurdles in creating more advanced AI models.
Here's what you need to know:
Issues include escalating costs, lack of quality training data, and growing ethical concerns about safety and bias.
The idea that more computing power and data automatically leads to better AI is being questioned, as training costs are expected to reach $100 billion soon.
OpenAI’s new model, Orion, didn’t meet expectations, especially in coding tasks.
Google’s Gemini model and Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Opus also faced delays and underperformed compared to their high costs.
This struggle to innovate responsibly reflects the balancing act required to make AI more powerful and beneficial without compromising safety and ethical standards.
SIDE UPDATE
SoftBank and NVIDIA collaborate on Supercomputer 🤝💻
SoftBank is set to be the first to build a supercomputer powered by NVIDIA’s Blackwell Chips, aiming to meet the rising AI demand in Japan.
Here's what you need to know:
It will be Japan’s most powerful AI supercomputer based on NVIDIA 's Blackwell GPUs, with plans to upgrade to the advanced Grace Blackwell platform in future versions.
They will use the supercomputer to support local services, aiding generative AI development and providing resources for research institutions and companies across Japan.
SoftBank and NVIDIA are also working on creating an AI-powered radio access network (AI-RAN) that merges AI capabilities with 5G telecom.
These AI-RANs will help power autonomous vehicles, remote robotics and other innovative services, while using less energy than traditional network infrastructure.
Why it matters:
This collaboration places Japan at the forefront of AI and telecom innovation, offering more efficient and sustainable solutions for emerging technologies.
