OpenAI is rolling out a new age prediction tool for ChatGPT to identify potential minors, beginning with the EU in the coming weeks. The system uses an AI model to estimate if a user is under 18; if flagged, it automatically restricts access to sensitive content. Users wrongly flagged can restore full access by verifying their age via a selfie through Persona. This safety push appears to be the groundwork for a larger pivot: OpenAI reportedly plans to launch an uncensored "adult mode" in early 2026 as ChatGPT surpasses 800 million weekly users and expands its advertising business.

Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI has unearthed over 200 internal documents that expose the aggressive maneuvering behind Microsoft’s $13 billion investment in the AI lab. The files reveal a partnership born from Microsoft’s fear of falling behind Google, detailing how the tech giant secured exclusive cloud rights and steered OpenAI’s direction away from its non-profit roots. This transformation is a core argument in Musk’s pursuit of $134 billion in damages. While the massive success of ChatGPT validated the bet, the documents highlight a fragile relationship strained by board crises and power struggles, painting a picture of a defining alliance where Microsoft pushed, hesitated, and ultimately captured the lead in the generative AI boom.

Artificial intelligence dominated the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, with industry leaders issuing stark warnings about the lightning speed of the coming economic shift. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei predicted that AI could handle most software engineering tasks within just 6 to 12 months and criticized U.S. chip exports to China as comparable to arming a rival state. Concurrently, Microsoft’s Satya Nadella warned that companies failing to adapt immediately face extinction, while Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis noted that although AI might slow junior hiring, it will drastically accelerate skill acquisition for the remaining workforce.
