PLUS: Stability AI new open-source model beats ChatGPT
Howdy, Welcome to our latest newsletter
Today, We'll explore Stability AI's groundbreaking open-source models, the arrival of Bing Chat on Chrome and Safari Browsers, and the exciting transformation of Twitter into X.
Stability's Carper AI team developed two new language models called FreeWilly1 and Freewilly2. Both are based on Meta's open-source models LlaMa and LlaMa 2 (a newer model with more parameters) respectively.
These models are trained on the smaller dataset and still perform well in reasoning and complex tasks like law and math. The Freewilly2 model outperforms GPT-4 in some tasks and is even better than GPT-3 in most cases.
It's possible due to these models using a special method from Microsoft called 'Ocra' which allows them to achieve good performance with less data.
Currently, both FreeWilly models are leading the way, with FreeWilly 2 at the top of the list among all open-source models, surpassing even the original LlaMa 2 model in performance.
Benesse, a Japanese education company, has introduced a new AI service to help elementary school students with their research projects during the summer break. This AI service will be available for free on Benesse's website, making it easy for parents and guardians to access.
The tool will help the students find the right research topics and keep their all findings organized. It will be a reliable and valuable resource for academic research, especially at a time when there is so much misleading stuff and tons of data on the internet.
Microsoft's Bing Chat was previously available only within Microsoft products like the Bing mobile app and Microsoft Edge browser. Now, Microsoft is expanding Bing Chat's availability to non-Microsoft browsers as well like Google Chrome and Apple's Safari.
However, there are some limitations when using it in Chrome compared to Microsoft Edge. In Chrome, it supports only five messages per conversation instead of 30, and the character count is limited to 2,000 instead of 4,000 in Edge.
As of now, it is available only to selected users but Microsoft plans to more users once the testing is complete.
Twitter is officially changing its name and logo to X. On Monday, Twitter's CEO Linda Yaccarno released a short memo addressing the company's transition to X which reveals certain things:
They are changing Twitter to an everything app by adding new features like videos, audio, messaging, banking, and payments.
They want to move super fast and keep trying new things.
"X" will create a big marketplace for everyone to share ideas and stuff.
They promise to keep the platform open for free expression while serving the entire community.
