Two Quick AI Updates

ChatGPT’s Open AI rival seeks to raise funds at $4 billion valuation

Stability AI, the company behind AI-generated images, is reportedly planning to raise additional funds following its successful unicorn status funding round late last year.

According to undisclosed insiders, the company is seeking a valuation of approximately $4 billion. However, it is uncertain how much capital it intends to raise in the prospective round.

It should be noted that the decision to pursue financing has not yet been finalized, and the company's valuation may still change. This information has not been confirmed officially, and the sources have requested anonymity.

In October of the previous year, Stability AI raised $100 million from investors at a valuation of approximately $1 billion.

New Non-Profit for AI funded by Hugging Face and Stability AI

EleutherAI Institute, and it's all about promoting research and open-source AI.

The institute is going to be funded by donations and grants from backers like Hugging Face and Stability AI (who are both AI startups), former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, Lambda Labs, and Canva.

Right now, the company is working on making huge language models like OpenAI's text-generating GPT-3. But they're not stopping there - they're planning to put more effort into making sure their AI work is ethical, interpretable, and aligned with human values.

The EleutherAI Institute is going to have to work hard to keep the funding coming in to keep their research going, but I'm excited to see what they come up with.
