📰 MAIN SCOOP

1/ OpenAI rumored to develop first custom AI chip

OpenAI is reportedly working on its first custom AI chip, made by TSMC using their advanced A16 Angstrom process, set to start mass production in 2026.

How will it impact Apple?

If the rumors are true, OpenAI’s custom chip could enhance the capabilities of its Sora video-generation feature, which may eventually be integrated into Apple's generative AI suite. This integration could boost iPhone sales if the video-generation feature performs well on Apple devices.

Why is this important?

Apple is a key partner of OpenAI, incorporating ChatGPT into its upcoming Apple Intelligence. Apple is also reportedly participating in OpenAI’s new financing round. Therefore, OpenAI's advancements could directly benefit Apple, enhancing its product offerings and market position.

2/ New AI model simulates DOOM video game in real-time

Google and Tel Aviv University researchers have developed a new AI model called GameNGen that can interactively simulate the classic 1993 game DOOM in real-time.

How it works?

GameNGen employs a modified Stable Diffusion model to generate DOOM gameplay frames at over 20 FPS on a single TPU, enabling the AI to "imagine" graphics in real-time, functioning as a limited game engine without traditional rendering.

Why does it matter?

GameNGen could be a pioneering AI model as it simulates an actual video game in real-time without requiring a game engine. So, we’re at the cusp of a fascinating innovation: In the next few years, AI can create any video game on the fly with personalization for each user.

3/ The Robo Butler

1X Technologies has revealed a new humanoid robot called NEO Beta. It is designed for home assistance and has human-like capabilities in movement, interaction, and task performance.

Here's the lowdown:

NEO stands 5'5", weighs a mere 66 pounds, and can sprint at 7.5 mph. It's got a 44-pound lift capacity and runs for 2-4 hours on a charge. Pretty impressive stats for a home helper, right?

What's most impressive about NEO is how human-like it is.

The robot uses "embodied AI" to understand its environment and learn from interactions. It can perform a wide range of tasks, from household chores to providing companionship. NEO communicates through gestures and body language rather than speech, making interactions natural and intuitive.

NEO is so strikingly human that it has sparked debate about whether it's an actual person.

4/ xAI reveals “Colossus

Elon Musk announced that xAI's Colossus 100k H100 training cluster is now online, completed in just 122 days. It is claimed to be the world’s most powerful AI training system, with plans to double its capacity soon.

What does the completion of Colossus mean for xAI?

The completion of Colossus is a major boost for xAI. This means faster development of advanced AI models, potentially enhancing technologies like autonomous vehicles and robotics and significantly advancing their Grok language model.
