💼 Generative AI is already taking white-collar jobs

An ingenious study by Washington University looked at what happened on a huge online freelancing platform after ChatGPT launched last year.

The result? Freelancers experienced a decrease in job opportunities and earned significantly less.

The study showed that even freelancers who earned the most and did the most work were just as likely to face job and income losses as other workers. This means that being more skilled did not protect them from challenges.

The biggest performance gains came among the less skilled workers.

This means that large language models (LLMs) are really good at repeating and summarizing what they already know. If you already know a lot, using an LLM won't help you much.

PS: Using generative AI can boost your skills or understanding to a higher level, especially in areas where your knowledge is initially limited.
