THROUGH THE VALLEY
Perplexity has launched Perplexity Computer, a new system that routes tasks across 19 different AI models instead of relying on a single one. Users describe what they want done, and the platform spins up sub-agents that can browse the web, write code, connect to apps, and complete tasks on their own. Each job runs in a sandbox and can mix models from different providers, with long-running tasks designed to operate for extended periods. CEO Aravind Srinivas criticized single-model setups, calling out rivals for limited flexibility. Pricing is usage-based, with a monthly credit system and optional model selection.
Anthropic has unveiled new features for its Claude Cowork tool to help office workers automate routine tasks across common business software like Google Drive, DocuSign, and Intuit. The update targets teams in areas such as human resources, wealth management, and investment banking, letting Claude handle more day-to-day work inside existing workflows. It follows an earlier release focused on legal work that rattled software stocks and raised concerns about how AI could disrupt entire service businesses. With these updates, Anthropic is pushing deeper into the enterprise market, where it is competing directly with OpenAI for large company customers.
Anthropic has dropped a key promise from its original policy to pause training if a model becomes too risky. The company now says it will keep developing models unless it believes it has a clear safety lead over competitors. Anthropic argues that holding back while others push ahead could leave the world less safe overall. The shift comes as the Pentagon has reportedly warned it could cancel a $200 million contract if Anthropic does not relax rules around military use. The policy change has also led to the exit of a senior safety leader.
Cursor has rolled out upgraded AI coding agents as competition heats up with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Microsoft. The startup, now valued at about $29 billion with over $1 billion in annualized revenue, says the new agents can test code changes on their own and document results with logs, screenshots, and videos. Developers can run many agents at once on cloud machines, without using local resources, across web, desktop, mobile, Slack, and GitHub. Cursor says this lets teams handle far more work in parallel, shifting developers away from routine edits toward higher-level design decisions.
