THROUGH THE VALLEY

Anthropic revenue chart
Anthropic says its annual revenue run rate has climbed past $30 billion, overtaking OpenAI’s reported $25 billion and marking one of the fastest ramps in AI. The company added roughly $11 billion in annualized revenue in just over a month, equivalent to the combined ARR of Palantir, Anduril, and Databricks, after sitting at about $19 billion in February and around $9 billion at the end of 2025. Anthropic also said the number of enterprise customers spending more than $1 million per year has doubled from over 500 to more than 1,000 in less than two months, alongside an expanded partnership with Google and Broadcom that will give it access to 3.5 gigawatts of TPU-based compute starting in 2027.
OpenAI has published a 13-page policy paper arguing that AI may require a new social contract, with proposals that include taxing automated labor, creating a public wealth fund, expanding access to AI, and testing a four-day workweek. The company says society is already entering a transition toward superintelligence, and Sam Altman told Axios that small policy fixes will not be enough if AI starts disrupting jobs, tax systems, public services, cyber defense, and biosecurity at the same time. One of the boldest ideas is a sovereign-style fund seeded by AI companies that would pay dividends to Americans, alongside robot taxes, stronger oversight systems, and containment plans for rogue autonomous AI. The paper shows OpenAI is no longer treating superintelligence as a distant research milestone, but as a force it believes could hit fast enough to strain the institutions built for the pre-AI economy.
Meta is reportedly preparing to release its first AI models led by Alexandr Wang, with plans to open-source some versions while keeping its largest and most powerful systems closed. The move comes as Meta tries to regain ground after Llama 4 underwhelmed against top rivals, while still advancing Wang’s vision of a broadly accessible, U.S.-built AI ecosystem. Internally, the company is said to want more control over safety testing and deployment before releasing its strongest models, marking a shift away from Meta’s earlier push for full openness. The strategy shows how even the biggest open-model backers are starting to hedge, as competition pushes labs to balance reach, safety, and commercial advantage more aggressively.
