THROUGH THE VALLEY

/ OpenAI's next model solved decades-old math problems: OpenAI revealed that Astra, an internal version of its next major model family, solved 10 long open problems across mathematics and computer science, including some that had remained unsolved for nearly 30 years. The proofs were formally verified in Lean and cost roughly $2,000 in API tokens to generate, and reports suggest Astra could launch as GPT-5.7, GPT-6, or under a new brand with more advanced versions released under restricted access.
/ Alibaba launches its most powerful AI model yet: Alibaba unveiled Qwen3.8-Max, a 2.4 trillion parameter multimodal model built for coding, research, long-horizon agent tasks, and visual reasoning. The model supports a 1 million token context window, reportedly performs on par with Anthropic's Fable 5 in several benchmarks, and is designed to handle complex workloads with minimal human input. DeepSeek also released V4-Flash, an ultra-low-cost model estimated to be more than 100 times cheaper to run than Anthropic's Claude Fable 5.
/ Google gives humanoid robots full-body AI control: Google DeepMind introduced Gemini Robotics 2, a new AI model that controls an entire humanoid robot instead of just its arms, enabling coordinated movements like walking, crouching, reaching, and handling objects. The system can also plan complex tasks, coordinate multiple robots, run locally without constant internet access, and includes new safety features, though it remains a research project with no public release date. (watch the demo here)
/ Meta plans to spend up to $145B on AI infrastructure: Mark Zuckerberg says Meta will spend up to $145 billion on AI infrastructure in 2026, including a new 1-gigawatt Texas data center, as the company races to build an agent-first internet. Meta plans to bring persistent AI assistants to WhatsApp and Messenger, while also expanding enterprise AI tools and updating its smart glasses with new privacy protections.
