Today, we will look into OpenAI's latest web crawler, Zoom's new approach to using data for AI training, Apple's widened server supply chain for AI service testing, and more…..
OPEN AI

OpenAI launches Web Crawler to enhance AI Models 🕸️
OpenAI has launched GPTBot, a new web crawler to improve future AI models like GPT-4 and GPT-5.
What you need to know:
GPTBot searches the web for useful data, learns from it, and uses that information to improve AI's accuracy and capabilities.
After the GPTBot launch, there are concerns about using data from the internet to train AI, including issues with copyright, ownership, and how the data is used.
There are also debates about whether OpenAI should share profits if they use web data for commercial purposes.
However, Website owners have the choice to allow or block GPTBot's access to their sites. They can modify their "robots.txt" file and include specific instructions that prevent GPTBot from visiting the site.
STABILITY AI

Stability AI launches LLM for coding 💻
Stability AI launched StableCode, their very first generative AI tool for coding. It aims to enhance programmer productivity and simplify coding for newcomers.
What you need to know:
It comes in three versions: a general-use model, an instruction model, and a long-context-window model with support for up to 16,000 tokens.
The model is built upon the BigCode project and offers features like autocomplete, responding to instructions, and handling large spans of code.
StableCode supports languages like Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, and more.
It uses Rotary Position Embedding (RoPE) for better code generation. Unlike other techniques, RoPE doesn't favor any specific part of the code, making it great for coding where different parts are equally important.
ZOOM

Zoom can now use your data to train its AI 🔍
Zoom has updated its terms of service, allowing them to use certain customer data to train their AI models.
What you need to know:
As per new terms, they can now take data about how you use their product, like which features you use the most, how often you use them, and similar details. This kind of data helps Zoom improve its AI and machine-learning models.
However, In a recent blog post, Zoom has clarified that they won't use your private chats, videos, or audio recordings to train their AI models unless you give them permission.
So If you use Zoom AI tools for summarizing meetings and writing chat messages, It will only train AI with your personal data if you agree.
APPLE

Apple buys Foxconn Servers to test AI services 🍎
Apple is teaming up with Foxconn, a supplier, to use servers from Vietnam for testing their AI services.
What you need to know:
These servers will be used by Apple to test and develop new AI services that could potentially boost Siri's capabilities.
Foxconn is already a major server supplier for Apple's data centers but it also supplies servers to Amazon, OpenAI, and Nvidia, making up about 43% of the global server market share.
This move shows that Apple wants to use servers from different places, not just China, to avoid depending on one source.
They're also thinking of making a big AI announcement in 2024, but it's not clear yet exactly how they will offer AI services to the public.
