THROUGH THE VALLEY
OpenAI has hired Peter Steinberger, the developer behind OpenClaw, a popular open source AI agent that can take actions like booking travel, managing email, and handling routine tasks. The project went viral on social media and became one of the fastest-growing repositories on GitHub, passing 175,000 stars in just a few months. Some users are already using OpenClaw as a co-worker or team member to automate daily work. Steinberger considered offers from Meta before choosing OpenAI. OpenClaw will remain open source under an independent foundation, with OpenAI's strong commitment to sponsoring its development.
Kimi has launched a beta of Kimi Claw, a 24/7 always-on AI agent available on Allegretto and higher plans. Built on OpenClaw, the agent can connect to users’ own self-hosted bots and be managed directly inside Kimi Chat. It includes a built-in skill library, so users can add ready-made tools instead of building everything from scratch. You can also teach the agent your workflows, quality standards, and preferred output format. Kimi Claw can run scheduled tasks, monitor information over time, and act as an automated reminder system for ongoing work.
Alibaba has launched Qwen3.5, its latest flagship AI model, built for what the company calls the “agentic AI” era. Unlike older models that mainly follow instructions, Qwen3.5 is designed to plan tasks, use tools, and take actions with less human input. It comes in open-weight and cloud versions, uses a more efficient architecture, and supports text, images, and long videos across more than 200 languages. A key feature is its ability to interact with software interfaces like a human, opening the door to real automation. The release puts Alibaba in direct competition with ByteDance and DeepSeek in China’s fast-moving AI race.
ByteDance is reportedly testing Seedance 3.0, its next AI video model, in a closed development phase. Just this month, Seedance 2.0 went viral for creating highly realistic AI videos, drawing attention across the film and media world and even unsettling some Hollywood groups. The rumored new version aims to move beyond short clips and generate long, structured videos over 10 minutes with full storylines and multi-shot scenes. It is also said to support synced dialogue in multiple languages and simple director-style controls. ByteDance has not confirmed these details, and claims about major cost reductions remain unverified.
