PEAK OF THE DAY

🌐 Amazon Unveils Nova Act: The AI That Browses for You

Amazon AGI Labs has unveiled Nova Act, an AI agent system that can independently operate web browsers to complete tasks. They also introduced a developer SDK, allowing users to create agents capable of handling multi-step processes across the web.

What can it do?

Nova Act autonomously performs web tasks that normally require human clicks and inputs, such as searching, booking tickets, shopping, and filling out forms.

Who's behind Nova Act?

Nova Act is the first public product from Amazon's AGI Lab in San Francisco, an initiative co-led by former OpenAI researchers David Luan and Pieter Abbeel.

What makes it special?

  • Adaptability: Works effectively even in completely unfamiliar environments like browser games, despite not being specifically trained for them.

  • Programmable agents: With Nova Act SDK, developers can create their own custom AI browser agents for specialized use cases.

  • Real-world applications: Automates tasks for shoppers, businesses, and enterprises (e.g., submitting out-of-office requests, setting calendar holds or making reservations).

How does it compare to rivals?

Amazon claims over 90% accuracy in complex web interactions, such as date selection, dropdowns, and pop-ups, outperforming Claude 3.7 Sonnet and OpenAI's Computer Use Agent.

How to get started?

Users can access Nova Act through its official website, where they can also explore Nova foundation models and the Nova Act SDK.

Is it available to everyone?

Currently, it’s in research preview and available only to US-based Amazon account holders and developers.

What’s next for Nova Act?

Amazon plans to integrate it into Alexa+, potentially bringing AI-powered automation to millions of Alexa users worldwide.

Why does this matter?

Nova Act signals Amazon’s serious push into AI automation, adding competitive pressure on OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. As AI agents become more capable, the line between narrow AI and AGI continues to blur, raising important questions about the future of AI-driven work automation.

👨‍⚕️ Apple prepares to launch an AI doctor: Apple is reportedly developing an AI-powered health assistant under "Project Mulberry", set to debut with iOS 19.4 next year. It will analyze iPhone and Apple Watch data to provide personalized health advice, food tracking, and exercise form analysis. They are also searching for a prominent doctor to be the face of the initiative, potentially branded as "Health+".

🎥 Runway's Gen-4 redefines AI video creation: The startup has launched its most advanced AI video model, claiming unmatched fidelity and "best-in-class" world understanding. Gen-4 solves a key challenge in long-form content creation by maintaining consistent characters, styles, and settings across scenes. They also showcased five short films made with Gen-4, highlighting its potential for AI-driven storytelling.

💰 OpenAI closes historic $40B funding round: OpenAI has raised $40 billion in the largest private funding round ever, valuing the company at $300 billion. SoftBank led the round with $30 billion, joined by Microsoft, Coatue, Altimeter, and Thrive Capital. The funds will fuel AI research, expand computing power, and enhance ChatGPT’s capabilities, with $18 billion allocated to OpenAI’s ambitious Stargate infrastructure project.

🚀 Musk's xAI acquires X for $33B: Elon Musk's AI startup has bought his social media platform X in a $33 billion all-stock deal, valuing the combined entity at $113B. The merger pairs xAI's Colossus supercomputer—the world's largest—with X's 650M userbase, aiming to integrate AI-driven tools, payments, and communication into a single super app.

🔬 Anthropic develops 'AI Microscope' to decode LLMs: Anthropic has recently introduced a neuroscience-inspired tool to map how AI models like Claude plan responses, manage bias, and handle safety-critical content. Researchers found that Claude strategically plans ahead in tasks like poetry generation—first selecting rhyming words, then building text around them—challenging the notion that LLMs merely predict the next word.

🧠 AI converts brain waves into speech for paralyzed patients: Researchers at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco have successfully developed an AI-powered brain-computer interface that translates brain signals into speech in real time. The system captures neural activity from the brain's speech motor cortex and converts it into audible words, allowing paralyzed people to communicate directly through their thoughts.
