Open AI secretly develops an open-source model 🤫

Open AI is working on a new open-source model codenamed G3PO to compete with Microsoft and Meta’s jointly developed open-source model Llama 2 launched last week. Llama 2 offers both open-source access and commercial license to earn profit.

Open AI, now feeling the pressure from Llama 2, initially planned to release G3PO, two months ago. However, the release was delayed. According to The Information, the postponement in releasing G3PO can be due to two main reasons:

• Firstly, OpenAI's team is relatively small and focused on promoting an app store to create a marketplace for customers to sell custom AI models.

• Secondly, they also want to develop a personalized ChatGPT assistant, and launching a direct competitor to Microsoft could take years.

Despite the setback, OpenAI still intends to release G3PO eventually, as they recognize the importance of open-source models in the face of competition. However, there is currently no confirmed timeline for its release.

Amazon brings generative AI tools to improve healthcare 🧑‍⚕️

Amazon is making healthcare services better with two new tools. The first one is called AWS HealthScribe, which can turn doctor-patient talks into written notes. It can understand who is speaking, pick out important medical terms, and sort the conversation into different types of comments.

The second service is AWS HealthImaging, which stores and studies medical images in large quantities, helping doctors with a cost-saving of up to 40%.

Man Group introduces AI tool for idea generation 💡

Man Group, the world’s largest publicly traded hedge fund has introduced ManGPT, an AI platform that helps generate ideas and summarize information.

Since its introduction, the tool has been well-received within Man Group. Chief Technology Officer Gary Collier uses it actively for decision-making and the rest of their team has been able to safely access Open AI’s GPT model through this platform.

This move shows the increasing interest in combining human expertise with AI in different industries like banking, asset management, hedge funds, and law firms. Tools like Man GPT will potentially help these firms in making more informed and strategic financial decisions for improved returns.
