PLUS: META open sources music generation toolkit

Howdy, Welcome to our latest newsletter.

Today we will explore Meta’s new music generation toolkit, Musk buying a domain from OpenAI, Youtube testing AI-generated summaries, and more, so let’s begin.

Meta has introduced AudioCraft, a collection of AI models that can generate high-quality sound and music from text descriptions. It consists of three models: MusicGen creates music, AudioGen produces sound effects, and EnCodec compresses sounds for better quality.

Since these models are open-sourced, professionals and researchers can train and experiment with them using their data, and there are no copyright disputes as the pre-trained models use public or Meta-owned material.

Although AudioCraft is a significant step forward, the generated music still has a slightly artificial feel. Nonetheless, Meta sees it as a potential tool for musicians and sound designers, providing inspiration and enabling quick brainstorming and experimentation in new ways.

Elon Musk recently acquired the domain AI.com from OpenAI, Just 4 months after OpenAI bought it for $11 million.

Musk has not officially confirmed it yet, but evidence suggests that he now owns the domain. When you type ‘‘AI.com‘‘ in your browser, it takes you to his new AI project called xAI.

Musk is also changing other website names to be related to AI, including X.com for Twitter. This shows that he’s very serious about AI and wants to be at the forefront of the field.

Meta is preparing to launch AI-powered chatbots called 'personas' with distinct personalities. Users will be able to engage in human-like discussions with these chatbots, and there will be 30 different characters to choose from, including one based on Abraham Lincoln.

These chatbots will offer innovative search functions and recommendations on Meta's platforms. However, this move raises privacy concerns as it could lead to the collection of new user data by Meta for more targeted content and ads.

The launch is expected as early as next month, and the chatbots will be available on Meta's social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

YouTube is reportedly testing a new AI feature that makes short summaries of videos to help you decide if you want to watch them.

These summaries will show up on watch and search pages, but they won't replace the creators' video descriptions. The AI might use video transcripts and other information to create these summaries.

Currently, they are testing it with a limited number of videos and viewers in English. If you come across these summaries, you can give feedback to YouTube about your experience.
