THROUGH THE VALLEY

OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI in ChatGPT - its new “Intelligent UI” lets ChatGPT generate interactive diagrams, calculators, charts, and other custom interfaces instead of just giving you a wall of text.

So you could ask it to plan dinner for 10 people and get a shopping list that updates as you change the guest count, or ask how much rent you can afford and get a calculator with sliders you can play with. You can even explore anatomy diagrams by clicking on different body parts.

The feature comes with GPT-6, which is also making ChatGPT faster at responding. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant. Paid users got access yesterday, with Free and Go users starting to get it today.

Now, Google and Claude have been doing similar things for a while, so the idea isn't exactly new. But ChatGPT has 1.2 billion weekly users, and bringing this to free users is a pretty big deal.

btw here are some cool use-cases unlocked by ChatGPT's intelligent UI.

Other new AI headlines worth knowing:

1/ Claude Haiku 5.5 is cheap, until you need more context. Anthropic's new fast model costs $0.10/$0.50 per million input/output tokens for prompts under 100K tokens, but prices jump 5x beyond that. It's priced the same as GPT-6 Luna below 100K tokens and reports better benchmark scores, though Luna looks like the better deal for longer prompts. Simon Willison has a good breakdown.

2/ Google launches an AI game builder called Playground. The new no-code platform lets you create games just by describing what you want, using Gemini, Nano Banana and Lyria. It's available to U.S. users aged 18+. Google also separately launched a SynthID Detector that can identify AI-generated content across 20 file formats.

3/ Zuckerberg wants AI to simulate human cells. Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan's Biohub is expanding its $500M biology initiative into a $1.8B effort with the US government, Google DeepMind and Meta. The goal is a “universal virtual cell” that can predict how cells respond to drugs and other changes before scientists test them in a lab. Researchers say they'll need data from trillions of cells to make it work, compared with hundreds of millions in today's largest datasets.
