Google DeepMind’s CEO says its next algorithm will surpass ChatGPT

DeepMind, the brainy folks building AI products at Google, is developing a new chatbot called Gemini to take on OpenAI's ChatGPT.

• Gemini is a large language model, similar to GPT-4, and it's currently under development.

• It's anticipated to cost tens to hundreds of millions of dollars, comparable to the cost of developing GPT-4.

To make Gemini good at problem-solving, they're borrowing "a reinforcement learning technique" from AlphaGo, where the AI is rewarded for good behavior and corrected for mistakes. It's like training your pet!

Backstory: AlphaGo made history by defeating a champion Go player in 2016 using reinforcement learning and tree search methods. These techniques are planned to be used in Gemini.

$1.3 Billion to prevent business data leaks

Databricks, a data management platform, is splashing $1.3 billion to acquire MosaicML, a startup that specializes in creating custom AI models.

Why it matters? : Normally, companies have to use pre-built models from big companies, but many businesses worry about sharing their data with these big giants or leaking all of their data to competitors.

Databricks and MosaicML will solve this problem by giving businesses the ability to train and use their own AI models without sharing data or relying on others.

The deal is expected to be finalized in July, and all 64 MosaicML employees will join Databricks.
