💸 OpenAI could lose $5 Billion in 2024

OpenAI is reportedly projecting a $5 billion loss in 2024, despite generating $3.7 billion in revenue.

Why the losses?

• The estimated loss is mainly due to high operational costs, salaries, and rent, excluding equity-based compensation and other major expenses.

• Despite the losses, OpenAI is experiencing rapid growth, having generated $300 million in revenue by August 2023, a 1,700% increase since the start of the year.

What's Happening with New Funding?

OpenAI is seeking a $150 billion valuation in its latest funding round, with Thrive Capital planning to invest $1 billion, while Apple has recently pulled out of the talks. The funding could be closed this week.

What's Next?

• ChatGPT is expected to make $2.7B in 2024, +286% from 700M in 2023.

• OpenAI expects to bring in $11.6 billion in 2025.

• OpenAI has forecasted its revenue to hit $100B in 2029.

• It also plans to increase ChatGPT subscription fees, currently $20 per month, to $22 by the end of 2024, and eventually to $44 within five years.

🧠 Google's AlphaChip is revolutionizing chip design

Google DeepMind recently launched AlphaChip, an AI system that can generate optimal chip designs in just hours, a process that typically takes humans weeks or months.

Where has AlphaChip been used?

• Originating as a research project in 2020, Google has used AlphaChip to design its last three generations of Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), that power Google’s AI models like Gemini and Imagen.

• Notably, it played a crucial role in developing Trillium, Google’s sixth-generation TPU, which delivers nearly 5x peak performance of its predecessor, double the bandwidth, and a 67% improvement in energy efficiency.

• Google also noted that AlphaChip is already influencing companies like MediaTek to enhance chip design technology, including accelerating the development of the Dimensity 5G chip for Samsung smartphones.

How does it work?

The key to AlphaChip’s success is its reinforcement learning approach, which treats chip design like a puzzle by adding one component at a time and learning from each step. 💡 Lifehack: Note-taking with Google AI

Google has updated its AI-powered tool, NotebookLM, introducing new features designed for easier content engagement, including summarizing YouTube videos and audio files and creating shareable AI-driven audio discussions.

While originally popular among educators, the tool is now gaining traction with business professionals.

How is it done? 

To summarize a YouTube video or analyze an audio file, here are the 3 following steps to follow:

• First, start by opening NotebookLM in your preferred browser and creating a new notebook.

• After that, you will encounter an option to upload an audio file or paste a public YouTube video link.

• Later, simply click the “Generate an Audio Overview” button and wait for a few seconds to a couple of minutes for the summary.

Notably, users can also share the AI-generated audio overview with others with just one tap. Earlier this month, Google introduced the Audio Overview feature, enabling users to turn their research notes into AI-generated podcasts.
