THROUGH THE VALLEY
OpenAI has removed a flawed sharing feature after thousands of private ChatGPT conversations accidentally appeared in Google search results. A small “Make this chat discoverable” checkbox in the share menu led users to unintentionally expose personal chats, including details about mental health and relationships. OpenAI’s CISO called the experiment “short-lived” and said all indexed pages would be removed by Friday. Privacy experts warn that unclear design choices like this can seriously erode trust and highlight the risks of exposing sensitive AI interactions to the open web.
Google is launching the Kaggle Game Arena, a new AI benchmark that pits models against each other in strategic games, starting with chess. The platform evaluates how well models can plan and reason by using text-based chess moves instead of relying on traditional chess engines. Games offer a clear way to measure intelligence, forcing models to show skills like strategy, adaptation, and long-term planning. Unlike static benchmarks that models can memorize, dynamic competitions like Game Arena provide a transparent and evolving way to track real AI progress.
OpenAI is rolling out new safety features in ChatGPT ahead of GPT-5 to encourage healthier use and support users who may be in distress. The updates include tools that detect signs of emotional dependency or delusion, provide evidence-based resources, and nudge users away from overly long conversations. OpenAI worked with doctors, human-computer interaction experts, and advisory groups to shape the changes, which also make ChatGPT less decisive in high-stakes situations. The move signals a focus on user well-being as interactions with advanced AI continue to grow.
Chinese researchers have built the “Darwin Monkey,” an AI-powered replica of a monkey brain that runs on 960 neuromorphic chips. Each chip supports over 2 billion artificial neurons and 100 billion synapses, approaching the scale of a real monkey brain. The system can handle tasks like reasoning, content generation, and math, powered by China’s DeepSeek AI model. Darwin Monkey is now the world’s largest brain-inspired computer, surpassing Intel’s Hala Point, which simulates about 1.15 billion neurons, roughly the size of an owl’s brain. Researchers say neuromorphic systems like this could make AI more energy-efficient and open the door to advanced brain-like intelligence.
Character.AI has launched Feed, the world’s first AI-native social feed, transforming the app from a chat tool into a full AI-powered entertainment platform. Feed brings Characters, Scenes, Streams, and creator-driven videos into one scrollable hub, where every post is interactive and remixable. Users can turn chats into videos, rewrite storylines, or drop Characters into debates, roast battles, and adventures. The launch marks a shift from passive scrolling to active creation, blurring the line between viewer and creator. Character.AI says Feed is the future of AI-powered entertainment, where every story can have endless endings.
ChatGPT now reaches 700 million weekly users, up 40% since March, as OpenAI prepares to launch GPT‑5 with advanced reasoning in a unified system. Business adoption has grown to 5 million customers, driving annual revenue to $13 billion. Major infrastructure deals with Oracle and CoreWeave are helping OpenAI maintain its lead against rivals like Google, Meta, Anthropic, and xAI. GPT‑5 will roll out in multiple versions tailored for different enterprise needs.
Cloudflare discovered that Perplexity’s AI engine bypasses website rules against automated scraping. When blocked, it disguises itself by rotating IP addresses and mimicking a normal browser. Tests on private sites showed Perplexity accessing restricted pages, unlike OpenAI’s bot, which stops. Cloudflare now blocks this stealth traffic and gives site owners tools to challenge or charge unwanted crawlers, protecting content and site integrity.
