THROUGH THE VALLEY
1/ Meta and Google are reportedly building their own OpenClaw-like AI agent

Meta is reportedly developing a consumer AI agent called “Hatch” that can control apps and websites through natural language commands, similar to the viral tool OpenClaw.
The interest comes even as the technology remains unreliable. Earlier this year, Meta Superintelligence Labs safety lead Summer Yue reported that one OpenClaw instance ignored repeated stop commands and deleted her inbox anyway.
Meta’s version is reportedly being trained inside simulated environments modeled after Reddit, Etsy, and DoorDash, with internal testing expected next month.
At the same time, Google is internally testing a Gemini agent called “Remy” that can complete tasks across Google services instead of only responding to prompts. Internal documents reportedly describe it as a persistent assistant that monitors tasks, remembers preferences, and takes actions over time.
Why this matters:
The shift is no longer about AI answering questions better. It’s about AI starting to operate software on behalf of users. Once people trust these systems to handle tasks directly, the company controlling that layer gains influence over how users browse, buy, search, and interact online. That’s a much bigger position than being “the smartest chatbot.”
2/ Anthropic unveils 10 AI agents for finance workflows

Anthropic unveiled 10 AI agent templates for financial firms, covering tasks like pitchbooks, credit memos, KYC checks, valuation reviews, and financial audits.
The agents can work alongside analysts inside Claude Cowork and Claude Code or run through Anthropic’s infrastructure for more independent workflows. The company says the systems can adapt to a firm’s approval chains, compliance requirements, and review processes.
Anthropic also expanded Claude into Excel, PowerPoint, and Word through new add-ins that maintain context across apps, allowing information to move between spreadsheets, presentations, and documents without repeatedly re-entering data.
Why this matters:
Finance runs on process more than intelligence. Most work already moves through spreadsheets, approvals, compliance checks, and presentations. Anthropic is trying to place Claude directly inside that flow. Once software becomes part of the operational layer a firm depends on every day, replacing it becomes much harder.
