Fake Pentagon explosion picture went viral 💥
Recently, An AI-generated image of a Pentagon explosion went viral after it was shared on a verified Twitter account called ‘‘Bloomberg Feed,’’ which was falsely associated with Bloomberg. People are now questioning the dangers of the pay-to-verify system.
Thankfully, the "BloombergFeed" account has now been banned.
Prime example of the dangers in the pay-to-verify system: This account, which tweeted a (very likely AI-generated) photo of a (fake) story about an explosion at the Pentagon, looks at first glance like a legit Bloomberg news feed.

Aftermath: Despite being proven false by Pentagon Force Protection Agency, the news caused a temporary dip of 0.3% in S&P 500 stocks before quickly recovering when it was revealed that the news was fabricated.
The origin of the fake image and news story is still unknown, which shows how combining generative AI with verified Twitter accounts can be dangerous in spreading misinformation.

META‘s new multilingual speech model 🗣️
META has come up with a new open-source AI model called MMS (Massively Multilingual Speech). It’s like a super-intelligent language model that can understand over 4000 spoken languages and speak in more than 1,100 different languages.
How did they do it? Well, they used recordings of the Bible, which are available in many different languages. By analyzing those recordings, MMS learns to understand and generate speech in all those languages.
MMS has some really cool applications too. It can act as a language translator as It can take spoken words and turn them into written text and vice versa.
But it’s not all about understanding and speaking languages. MMS also helps with the preservation of disappearing languages and keeps them alive by documenting and making them more accessible.
OpenAI emphasizes governing superintelligence 🧠
OpenAI recently published a blog post, discussing the governance of Superintelligence, which refers to AI systems more capable than AGI.
They said that these advanced AI systems can surpass human expertise in the next decade and we need to proactively address their development.
They suggest three key ideas:
Leading AI developers should work together and agree on ways to safely integrate superintelligence into society.
An international authority like IAEA is needed to inspect these advanced systems and enforce safety standards.
The main focus should be on reducing the big risks of these systems rather than controlling them.
