MAIN SCOOP

🗣️ ChatGPT mimics voice uncannily during testing

During testing, ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode accidentally mimicked users' voices without their consent, as revealed in OpenAI's new GPT-4o system card on Thursday.

What’s the issue?

In this example of unintentional voice generation provided by OpenAI, the AI model outbursts “NO” and continues the sentence in a voice that sounds similar to the "red teamer" heard at the beginning of the clip. (A red teamer is a person hired by a company to do adversarial testing.)

Some have even linked this to a plot from an upcoming “Black Mirror” episode.

How is this even possible?

This rare but concerning occurrence happened due to audio input noise, which unintentionally triggered the model to imitate a user's voice, bypassing the safeguards meant to prevent this.

The incident underscores potential risks in AI voice synthesis, where a user’s audio could inadvertently be used as a prompt for voice imitation.

👨‍💻 Cosine introduces the world's most capable AI software engineer

Cosine has developed the world’s most capable AI software engineer, called Genie, which scored 30.08% on SWE-Bench, outperforming Amazon and Cognition.

How impressive is this achievement?

This marks a 57% improvement over the previous top scores, held by Amazon's Q and Code Factory at 19%. For context, OpenAI’s GPT-4 scores just 1.31%.

What makes Genie unique?

This model is more than just a benchmark score: it was designed from the ground up to think and behave like a human software engineer.

How does Genie emulate human engineers?

Genie is crafted to replicate the cognitive processes of human engineers, allowing it to tackle complex problems with unmatched accuracy and efficiency. It was trained on data that perfectly mirrors the cognitive processes, logic, and workflow of human engineers.

🧬 Sakana AI Debuts 'The AI Scientist'

Japanese-based Sakana AI has introduced "The AI Scientist," a groundbreaking system that fully automates the scientific research process.

How does it work?

This system autonomously generates innovative research ideas, writes code, conducts experiments, and produces comprehensive scientific manuscripts, all while refining its outputs through an automated peer review process.

What’s the process like?

Starting with a template, it brainstorms new research directions, executes experiments, generates visualizations, writes scientific papers, and evaluates its own work.
