OpenAI has introduced a new real-time video feature in ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode, allowing users to interact with the AI through live visuals. This update integrates vision and voice capabilities, offering a more interactive user experience.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Visual Analysis:
Users can point their phone cameras at objects, and ChatGPT will provide real-time responses. For example, it can:

    • Identify objects

    • Explain settings menus

    • Solve math problems

    • Offer insightful feedback about drawings or diagrams

  • Screen Sharing:
ChatGPT can now analyze what's displayed on a user’s screen, offering explanations or suggestions.

  • Santa Mode:
OpenAI has also added a playful feature for the holidays. By clicking the snowflake icon, users can enable Santa’s voice, offering a fun, festive experience.

Any other competition in AI vision?

  • Google’s Project Astra: Unveiled this week for trusted Android testers, Astra offers real-time video analysis similar to OpenAI’s feature.

This update marks a significant milestone for OpenAI as it continues to push the boundaries of conversational AI, integrating visual and voice capabilities for a more interactive user experience.

Google and Samsung have announced a new mixed-reality headset and operating system, Android XR, which combines augmented reality and Gemini AI. This system promises natural, context-aware interactions, offering real-time translations and intelligent responses. Samsung's Project Moohan headset, set for release in 2025, will be the first device to feature Android XR, blending VR and AR. The demo showcased the potential for seamless AI experiences, giving users a glimpse into the future of extended reality (XR) in everyday life.

OpenAI's ChatGPT is now integrated into Apple Intelligence with the release of iOS 18.2, enhancing Siri with advanced reasoning and creativity. The update allows users to perform tasks like analyzing documents, creating lists, and editing drafts directly through Siri. Visual Intelligence on iPhone 16 users will enable real-time insights from their camera, making Siri more intelligent and productive. Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO, celebrated the update as a significant step towards a smarter, AI-driven user experience.

Harvard University is set to release a dataset of 1 million public-domain books that are no longer protected by copyright due to their age. This dataset will be available to researchers, AI labs, and startups, offering a significant resource to train large language models. The goal is to democratize access to valuable training data, though the exact release details are still unclear.

AI TRENDS

Top AI trends to watch in 2025

The AI world is changing fast, and these trends are leading the way for 2025:

1. Bigger and Better AI Models

  • AI models are becoming smarter by using better data, faster computers, and improved algorithms.

  • Techniques like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) make AI more useful for specific tasks.

  • New methods, like Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting, help models reason better.

2. AI That Combines Multiple Skills

  • AI is learning to work with text, images, videos, and audio together, making it more flexible.

  • This opens doors to cool applications like generating videos, making smart decisions, and understanding complex situations.

3. AI That Thinks for Itself

  • Autonomous AI agents are learning to plan, solve problems, and make decisions on their own.

  • Examples include personal assistants, specialized helpers (like for coding or legal advice), and customer service bots for companies.

4. AI Data Centers

  • Companies are spending big ($200 billion in 2024) on special data centers with powerful chips and better cooling systems.

  • They’re also exploring eco-friendly energy options, like nuclear power and liquid cooling.

5. AI for Nations

  • Countries are building their own AI systems to stay independent and competitive.

  • Examples include Denmark’s healthcare AI, Japan’s AI-driven 5G networks, and the UAE’s focus on testing new AI ideas.

6. Smarter Robots

  • Robots are improving at understanding the world and handling tricky tasks.

  • Big names in robotics include Boston Dynamics, Tesla (Optimus), and Physical Intelligence (pi-zero).

7. AI in Advertising

  • AI is making ads more targeted and effective, helping platforms like Google, Meta, and TikTok grow their revenues.

  • It’s also helping with creative design, search tools, and data analysis.

8. Self-Driving Cars

  • AI models, like Waymo’s EMMA, are improving how autonomous vehicles navigate and make decisions.

  • These models aim for smoother and safer driving.

9. AR Glasses and Future AI Tech

  • AR glasses, like Meta’s Orion and Apple’s “Atlas,” are becoming key tools for interacting with AI.

  • The future may also include brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and smart environments for a more seamless experience.

These trends show how AI is rapidly evolving and shaping the future of technology and daily life.
