Main AI Updates

What’s going on?

OpenAI has created an internal scale to track its LLMs' progress toward artificial general intelligence (AGI).

Chatbots like ChatGPT are chilling at Level 1. OpenAI claims it's closing in on Level 2, defined as a system that can solve basic problems at the level of a person with a PhD. 🎓

  • Level 3 is all about AI agents that can take actions on a user’s behalf.

  • Level 4 involves AI that can generate new ideas, contributing to scientific discovery and technological advancement.

  • Level 5, the ultimate goal, is AI that can do the work of entire organizations.

While the timeline for achieving the higher levels remains uncertain, OpenAI’s CTO has suggested that PhD-level AI could be a reality within a year and a half.

Why does it matter?

OpenAI's mission is to achieve AGI, making its definition crucial. A clear scale to track progress could give everyone a better idea of when AGI is reached, benefiting both OpenAI and its competitors.

What’s going on?

According to leaks from Bloomberg and Reuters, OpenAI is cooking up a new AI model called “Strawberry” to help its AI tools hit human-level smarts through advanced reasoning.

Strawberry would effectively scan the internet autonomously and reliably perform what OpenAI describes as “deep research,” allowing it to solve more complex real-world problems at scale.

Think major scientific breakthroughs or building new software apps.

And here’s the juicy bit:

This development is partly based on the Q* algorithm, which sparked loads of imaginative discussions about AI’s future last year.
