THROUGH THE VALLEY

Things are getting a bit uncomfortable between OpenAI and Microsoft.

Microsoft is reportedly considering legal action over OpenAI’s $50B AWS deal with Amazon, arguing it could violate their exclusivity agreement. OpenAI and Amazon say the deal is within bounds, but Microsoft clearly sees it differently, and lawyers are now involved just as the Frontier system launch is getting closer.

At the same time, the company is continuing to push forward on products.

GPT-5.4 mini and nano have been launched with a clear focus on speed and cost efficiency. Mini is over 2x faster than GPT-5 mini, performs close to GPT-5.4 on coding tasks, and supports a 400K context window. It’s already live across ChatGPT, Codex, and the API, while nano is API-only and designed for lightweight, high-volume workloads.

Pricing starts at $0.75 per million tokens for mini and $0.20 for nano, which makes the positioning pretty clear. This is about scaling usage, not just improving capability.

There are also internal delays around the planned “adult mode” for ChatGPT, mainly due to safety concerns and weak age verification.

Anthropic is testing a feature called Dispatch inside Claude Cowork, and it changes how you interact with its model.

Instead of staying in a back-and-forth chat loop, you can assign tasks and let Claude continue working in the background. It maintains memory across tasks, can interact with files, browse, and use tools on your computer through a paired phone.

Dispatch is currently rolling out as a research preview for Max users, with broader access planned later.

Mistral has launched Forge, a platform designed to help companies build AI systems using their own data, including internal documents, codebases, and workflows.

While similar tools already exist, Mistral’s positioning is clearly centered around control and ownership. Instead of relying on general-purpose models, companies can build systems that reflect how they actually operate, and continue refining them over time through fine-tuning and reinforcement learning.
