AMD signs $4.9 billion deal to challenge Nvidia 💼 💰
On Monday, AMD announced plans to acquire AI server maker ZT Systems for $4.9 billion to expand its portfolio of AI chips and hardware, aiming to compete more aggressively with Nvidia.
Why ZT Systems?
ZT Systems specializes in servers and infrastructure for data centers, a key area for big tech as they invest heavily in AI model training. This acquisition will add 1,000 cloud data center engineers to AMD's team, enabling quicker testing and deployment of its AI GPUs for customers like Microsoft and Meta.
Why it matters?
The AI chip race is heating up, and AMD is working to match Nvidia’s offerings by enhancing its software and hardware capabilities. Over the last 12 months, AMD has invested over $1 billion to enhance its AI software and R&D, including a recent $665 million purchase of Finnish startup Silo AI.
Unitree launched the production version of G1 humanoid robot 🦾 🤖
Just three months after the announcement of its G1 humanoid robot, Unitree Robotics has officially launched the mass production version priced at $16,000.
It’s 90% cheaper than Unitree’s previous humanoid model, the H1, which debuted at over $150,000.
What can it do?
Standing just over 4 feet tall (yes, it's more like a child than a full-sized human), the G1 weighs around 77 pounds and is equipped with a suite of impressive technologies.
It boasts 23 degrees of freedom, powered by advanced joints that allow it to perform complex movements.
