Main AI Updates

Amazon is reportedly working on a multimodal AI model, code-named Metis, designed to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

According to a Business Insider report, MEtis will be capable of performing a wide range of generative AI tasks, including creating text content, responding to queries, and generating images.

Amazon reportedly wants to use retrieval-augmented generation, or the RAG method, for Metis, meaning the chatbot could reference knowledge outside of its original training data and therefore could provide more up-to-date answers.

Mark your calendar: Amazon’s AI platform should launch by September this year, right in time for their annual Devices and Services extravaganza.

A juicy little secret: A reference to Midjourney has been discovered in the codebase of the standalone version of Grok.

Now, it seems there are features that might utilize Midjourney. This suggests that Grok could potentially use Midjourney models through an API to generate stunning visuals.

This would be a significant upgrade for the Grok AI model, as Midjourney is renowned for producing highly advanced images.

ElevenLabs has just rolled out an exciting new Reader app that transforms written content into captivating audio using AI-generated voices. This fresh mobile app can read PDFs, websites, and other materials aloud, even mimicking your voice!

The iOS app is now available in the US, UK, and Canada, with other countries gaining access on July 11, a date that aligns with their brand name. While the Android version isn't available yet, there's a waitlist you can sign up for.

Initially set to debut in late June, the Voice Mode promises to make chatting with our AI even more lifelike and engaging, complete with emotional nuances and the ability to handle interruptions.

But hold onto your hats: It will now be available only to a small group of users in late July or early August.

OpenAI is working on improving content detection and user experience before wider rollout. GPT-4o's real-time voice and vision capabilities are also expected to roll out to ChatGPT Plus users soon.
